ILN Professional Development Conference Program

8 - 9 December 2007

The ILN conference offers an opportunity for Gulf Information Literacy professionals to come together and build new social technology skills and to learn about information literacy in the region.  The conference program will include tips on developing your own program and examples of local success stories.

The conference will take place at the newly opened Zayed University Dubai campus. 

Day 1

Day 1 will focus on using new and emerging social technologies in Information Literacy e.g. Wikis, blogs, podcasts etc.

11:10 – 11:40            Using social technologies to support Information Literacy in the Gulf region

1:00 – 2:00                Social technologies workshops – Concurrent sessions

1:00 – 2:00                Success stories from regional institutions (Three 20 minute
sessions – brief overview of successful practices in the Gulf region)

  • Book Club to promote reading and critical thinking among our students

  • Learning contract as a means of encouraging self-discovery in students across multi-disciplinary boundaries and as a vehicle for IL

  • Problem Based Learning – provides students with motivation to search independently and find resources on cases to share with other students; in addition to increased motivation, this approach makes the library e-resources very important
